Fu Jen conference

On April 3 and 4, officials from Saint Vincent College and Archabbey; Fu Jen Catholic University in Taipei, Taiwan; the Catholic Church; and Benedictine monasteries around the United States joined in celebrating the 100th anniversary of Fu Jen’s founding by Benedictine monks. A celebratory dinner and academic conference marked the occasion along with a Chinese calligraphy exhibit and a performance by the Minnesota Chinese Opera Troupe.

Legal certificate program

Starting in the spring semester, SVC launched a new Legal Certificate Program. Undergraduate students preparing for law school and legal professionals aiming to improve their skills can benefit from the new program, which will consist of four three-credit courses that cover the essential elements of law practice: Legal Reasoning and Analysis, Crafting Legal Documents, Survey of Legal Practice, and Law Office Practicum.

Pepperdine partnership

Saint Vincent has partnered with Pepperdine University School of Public Policy to provide SVC graduates with unique access to scholarships and fast-tracked admission. This opportunity is open to all Saint Vincent graduates, including those who recently graduated, and is available to students in all majors.

AI conference

The Alex G. McKenna School of Business, Economics, and Government sponsored the first AI: Industry Insights conference on March 22 at Saint Vincent College. The conference explored how generative AI is changing how business is done and how this technology is shaping the future of business around the world. SVC professors Dr. Michael Urick, C’04, and Dr. Mary Regina Boland, C’10, were featured speakers at the event.

December commencement

On December 14, Saint Vincent College held its 20th annual Winter Commencement at the Performing Arts Center in the Robert S. Carey Student Center. Ninety-two students were awarded degrees or certificates. The Hon. Mary C. McGinley, Judge of the Court of Common Pleas in Allegheny County, delivered the commencement address.

Life in Christ Week

The SVC community celebrated Life in Christ week January 19-26 with prayer services, discussions, Masses, volunteer work, and other special events. The week featured lectures from PA state trooper and advocate Cpl. Aaron Allen and Deacon Kevin Knight, chancellor for the Diocese of Savannah, and concluded with a trip to Washington, DC, for the National March for Life.

Faith on View

ranking

Saint Vincent College ranked No. 33 in the United States and No. 2 in Pennsylvania among Christian Colleges in a new ranking published by Faith on View. The College also received high marks in several other categories of the ranking, which aims to quantify both the quality of education and adherence to the Christian faith.

Spring honors convocation

On Wednesday, April 23, the College hosted its annual Spring Honors Convocation and Academic Conference. During the convocation ceremony, Azzia Berestecki won the President’s Award, Dr. Adam Wood won the Quentin Schaut Faculty Award, Dr. Matthew Fisher won the Boniface Wimmer Faculty Award, and Johnathan R. Petrie, C’05, gave the convocation address.

Welcome

Throughout the course of the spring semester, Saint Vincent has been pleased to welcome three administrators: Connie Dyer, vice president for finance and treasurer; Michael Andreola, vice president of philanthropy and alumni relations; and Dr. Elizabeth Barker, director of the Verostko Center for the Arts and curator of the Saint Vincent College Art & Heritage Collections. Additionally, Dr. Dana Winters, C'06, former assistant vice president for academic affairs, was recently promoted to vice president for enrollment and student success.
