A Data-Driven Perspective

In today’s world, every major business decision is data-driven, and artificial intelligence is woven into countless processes. Samir Raut, C’08, brings that perspective to his entire career. Over the past fifteen years, Raut has worked with many Fortune 100 organizations, including Wells Fargo, Microsoft, Pfizer, and Chevron. In March 2025, he joined Databricks, where he helps public agencies use AI to tackle complex challenges.

At Databricks, Raut partners with state and local governments to improve how data is collected, transformed, and scaled—advancing efforts to address homelessness, public health, and more. Secure, explainable, and powerful AI, grounded in data clients own, is becoming an essential pillar for these initiatives.

A mathematics major with minors in computer science and physics at Saint Vincent, Raut credits the liberal arts and sciences with shaping how he learns—and unlearns—topics today. As a student, he played on the tennis team, worked at the IT Helpdesk, served as a resident assistant, and worked at the Gristmill Coffeehouse under now-College president Father Paul Taylor, O.S.B. He also points to early internships, diverse campus opportunities, and his first consulting role after graduation as foundations he still applies daily.

Today, Raut gives back by offering career coaching to professionals looking to enter technology consulting as well as to recent graduates. “I’m still extremely grateful for the opportunities Saint Vincent gave me,” he says. “Now, I’m helping others make more informed decisions—just as the College helped me make mine.”
