Saying that Saint Vincent has smart professors is about the same as saying “water is wet.” It’s obvious. But, while we’re here, let’s go for a swim.

When you look out across the open ocean, it seems calm and beautiful, and the water sparkles in the sun. But when you look closer, when you let yourself lean just a little over the railing and stare straight down into the glimmering blue, that calm surface gives way to immense depths that we know less about than we know about the entire universe. It’s a whole world waiting to be explored. Like when you see the cover of a book or an interesting journal title and think, "Huh, that looks interesting," and then you open the book or click on the title and see that there’s so much more to that engaging title or pretty cover. 

Now, that metaphor might seem counterintuitive to what you’re looking at right now because right here, you’re only looking out across the surface of the water: the covers, the titles, the things that catch the light. But behind each one lies an entire ocean of curiosity, creativity, and intellect that could easily pull you under. And we hope it does. We hope you find yourself wanting to crack the spine on a book about the politics of Flannery O’Connor or the environmentalism of Mister Rogers or go down an internet rabbit hole at three in the morning after reading about the pollen diets of queen bees.

The publications included herein serve as just a singular snapshot of all the scholarship our currently faculty have published—scholarship that’s based on cutting-edge research that our students get to dive into and work on alongside our professors. There is so much to be discovered, so take a moment to get your feet wet.  Come on in. The water’s fine.
